Janes United Methodist Church - The Last 25 Years
The Last 25 Years

Here we are at the close of another twenty-five years at Janes.

We have made various improvements on our property.

We purchased and demolished three homes on Belleview Street for a new parking lot.

A fence was constructed around the parsonage backyard.

An addition of a stair tower, new handicap accessible restrooms, including one by the enlarged vestibule and renewed the 3rd floor classrooms was completed in 1995. To pay for these improvements, many fund raising activities were held, such as dinners, hoagies, pies and nut rolls.

Multimedia equipment was purchased which allows us to view the worship service on a screen and view videos.

A flagpole was erected on the front side of the church on Route 28.

A cross and flame was mounted on the stair tower.

An improvement of the upper parking lot with a new wall and fence was erected.

Ron Morrison, son of Rev. Alan Morrison, earned his Eagle Scout by planning and executing a permanent lighted sign with changeable letters with landscaping at the church.

Three of our members were ordained into the ministry: Debra Kinney in 1989, Carol Lanfried in 1994 and Janet Lord in 2001. Duane Morford was ordained in 1972.

The church again stands ready to assist when help in the community is needed. A committee was formed to open the church when disaster strikes. We also helped Millerstown when they were again flooded by Hurricane Ivan.

Church members support A.V.A.C., the food pantry; participate in our local Habitat for Humanity. Adults and youth in our church traveled to Statesville, North Carolina and Cookson, Oklahoma for Habitat for Humanity projects. We also participate in I.H.N.

The church became a shared church with Millerstown in 2003.

We were transferred from the Pittsburgh East District to the Butler District in 2004.

Membership as of spring 2006 is 207.
